Shibuya City Office, Public Hall and Park Court Shibuya The Tower

Shibuya

In Shibuya, re-development projects scheduled for completion by 2027 are currently in progress in various areas, among which we are engaged in the master design for the new Shibuya City Office, Public Hall, and Park Court Shibuya The Tower collectively, which are joint government and private developments now underway centered around the Koen-dori area. In order to fully understand “what the feature of Shibuya is”, we first designated four areas adjacent to the site in the east, west, south, and north and extracted each area’s unique colour palette based on its characteristics, landscape and historical context. Classifying the overwhelming green of Yoyogi Park and Meiji Jingu shrine as the image of sei (purity), the modern colour of Harajuku, Omotesando and Aoyama as iki (chic), the bustling colour of Udagawacho and Dogenzaka as matsuri (festa), and elegant and mature colour of quiet residential Shoto, Kamiyamacho and Tomigaya as sabi (subdued refinement) respectively, we focused on the fact that, while occupying the central position, the three buildings are surrounded on four sides by the colours of different elements. Coinciding with "diversity and inclusion", key to Shibuya City’s Basic Concept, these colours, specific to each area came to fruition as the concept “Full of Colour and Life”, thereby elevating themselves to the design of three buildings in unison which successfully harmonise with the surrounding environment.
